The Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung mbH Göttingen (GWDG) aims to make its website accessible in accordance with EU Directive 2016/2102. Accessible means that information is readable and operable for people with different disabilities.

The following declaration on accessibility documents the implementation status in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act (BGG) and the relevant contact options.

The assessment is based on a self-assessment (based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)). The website is continuously checked by means of spot checks.

Scope of the declaration

This accessibility statement applies to the landing page of the GWDG https://gwdg.de and associated subdomains. Excluded are other websites and subdomains that were not created via the central landing page.

Status of compatibility with the requirements

This website is partially compliant with EU Directive 2016/2102. Some parts of the content do not fully comply with the accessibility standard. We are endeavoring to rectify the known difficulties as soon as possible.

The contents listed below are not barrier-free:

  • The contrast of the font in the main navigation does not meet the required minimum standard on some pages.
  • Navigation mechanisms are not always consistent (e.g. breadcrumb navigation).
  • HTML structural elements (e.g. headings, paragraphs, highlighting) are sometimes not applied correctly.
  • Links can sometimes be incomprehensible outside of their context.
  • In individual cases, tables are not correctly marked up or used to position content.
  • In some cases, words and sections of text that appear in another language may not be marked accordingly.
  • Not all documents offered for download are available in an accessible version.
  • Forms are not completely barrier-free. There is a lack of sufficient information about incorrectly completed mandatory fields.
  • Informative images and graphics sometimes lack alternatives or alternative texts. Font graphics are used in several places.
  • Subtitles or transcriptions are sometimes not available for embedded video and audio files.

No completely barrier-free design

  • Easy language: mostly not available.
  • Sign language: not available.
  • Accessible PDF documents: We are working on the technical implementation of accessible PDF documents. Please contact us in individual cases to find a solution together.
  • Keyboard operability: Some areas are not optimally controllable with the keyboard.
  • Identifiability of information, structures and relationships: These may be too small or not fully identifiable under certain circumstances.
  • Reading order and focus order: The reading and focus order, which is important for screen readers, is not always followed correctly. This can lead to longer paths until the correct information is focused or read aloud.
  • Recorded audio or video content does not always have a transcription or subtitles.
  • Non-text content: Not all images and graphics contain the correct alternative texts.
  • If we become aware of this during the editing of texts and images, we will subsequently adapt the alternative texts accordingly.

Reasons for a lack of accessibility

The Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung mbH Göttingen has an extensive website with numerous subpages, which are maintained by various editors. Errors in the content design are therefore not entirely avoidable.

In some cases, the technical requirements for unrestricted accessible content design must first be created. The necessary reworking of pages, images and documents from the inventory takes a correspondingly long time. Due to the large number of documents created before 23.09.2018, it has not yet been possible to convert them into an accessible format.
