User Groups

The GWDG hosts and maintains systems for very different institutes and user groups. This also includes the user support and consulting options. In aiming to provide the best service to all these communitites, we develop synergies wherever possible and also foster networkig in our courses and workshops.

• HLRN

  
  The North German Supercomputing Alliance supports users in the Northern German states with the usage of and the transition to the Tier-2 systems in Göttingen and Berlin. For this, they have established a large consultant network.

• NHR@Göttingen

  
  Within the German national supercomputing strategy, eight data centers in Germany have been appointed NHR-Centers. Göttingen is one of these eight centers, offering supercomputing capacities to users nationwide.

• GöHPC

  
  GöHPC is an alliance of HPC users, providers and other interested parties based in Göttingen. The regularly offered GöHPCoffee emerged from this community and is now welcomes all interested.

• German Aerospace Center

  
  While the GWDG and DLR have long been connected through GöHPC, the decision of the DLR to build one of two supercomputing sites in Göttingen has propelled the alliance to a different level. The GWDG now hosts one of two DLR-supercomputers and supports the existing user community.

• Max Planck Society

  
  The Max Planck Society is the other proprietor of the GWDG. Researchers from the MPG are regular users of our HPC systems and different institutes integrate their computing systems into the Scientific Compute Cluster.

• University of Göttingen

  
  GWDG is connected to the University on many different levels - being the data center and IT service provider and at the same time three professorships link the GWDG to the university in teaching. Not to forget the many cooperations in which the Unversity and the GWDG are joint partners.

• Digital Humanities

  
  GWDG leads the activities on Digital Humanities within the German national supercomputing network and offers dedicated services and consulting for Digital Humanities related projects.

• Forestry

  
  HPC for forestry and remote sensing is a science domain of the GWDG. High-performance data analytics and machine learning meet the rising demands of big data in forestry. We aim to establish workflows on the HPC that are a stepping stone for the community.

• Artificial Intelligence

  
  Modern artificial inteligence methods need powerful compute resources. HPC offers these and thus enables the research and application of various methods, from classical machine learning methods to modern deep learning models.

• Earth Systems Science

  
  Earth system science is concerned with the study of various aspects of our planet, such as metrology and geology. To study the earth system, it is often simulated using HPC systems. The GWDG offers various services to support research in earth systems science.

• Life Science and Bioinformatics

  
  The GWDG provides various life science and bioinformatics resources, both for HPC and as standalone servers and services.

• Quantum Computing

  
  Simulators are often required for the development of algorithms for quantum computers. The GWDG provides powerful quantum computer simulators on HPC resources and also offers a comprehensive range of consulting services on this topic.
